Position Overview

RiverStone Group has a current need for an exceptional finance and accounting leader and manager with a strong balance of tactical process execution and deep technical expertise in financial reporting principles. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience working with middle market companies in a managerial capacity, including a minimum of 3 years of experience as a controller or equivalent position, including supervision of an accounting department and the use of an ERP system. Preference will be given to candidates with public accounting experience.

The controller will be a critical member of the management team, reporting directly to the CFO. This position will oversee a strong team of accountants and associates, aiding in cross-training and creating a positive and collaborative work environment.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, the Controller will work both independently, as well as with a team, to meet key objectives of the Accounting department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Have direct responsibility for all financial reporting, including complex inventory valuation methodologies, elimination and consolidation processes, income tax accounting and reporting, and accounting processes and transactions unique to the mining industry.
  • Have direct responsibility for maintaining the general ledger and sub-ledgers within the ERP system, supporting end users, and working with our internal IT group to create custom reporting tools and dashboards for management decision making.
  • Have direct responsibility for working with our external auditors, including preparing our annual audited financial report and overseeing all workpaper preparation.
  • Oversee the daily cash and banking activities and assist with treasury management.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the fixed asset listing and associated accounting for additions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Oversee the accounts payable coding, approval, and disbursement process.
  • Oversee all sales and use tax filings and all other periodic statutory and regulatory reporting with relevant state and local agencies.
  • Work closely with the CFO to maintain a proper internal control environment.
  • Work closely with the CFO to gather all relevant financial and employee data required for the annual insurance renewal.
  • Work closely with the CFO to determine the annual federal and state tax provisions including the preparation of the associated workpapers.
  • Work closely with the CFO to meet all internal and external deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting. CPA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience, including managing employees.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a controller or equivalent position.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with ERP software systems.
  • Experience in federal, state and local tax compliance
  • Excellent knowledge of GAAP
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel and Word
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage the priorities of a team
